The City of Warsaw with the Academic Initiative at the University of Warsaw started diagnostic work on a research project aimed at Warsaw scientists at a meeting in the Economic Development Space. The study aims to gather information on researchers’ expectations on creating the best conditions for generating and implementing new solutions, attracting specialists with unique knowledge and promoting achievements of Warsaw researchers internationally.
The goal of planned studies is to help systematize the knowledge that is scattered and fragmented at the city hall, which makes it unsufficient to form the right actions.

We would like Warsaw to be a metropolitan area that inspires other cities, which provides a favorable environment for the development and cooperation of creative environments. Warsaw universities have a fundamental role in this respect as a place for developing new ideas, innovative solutions and engaging creative potential in the social, economic and spatial creation of cities.

ZODIAK hosted the meeting of the authorities of the City of Warsaw with representatives of CITI Bank as well as the management and pupils of the Secondary School of Economics No. 1 in Warsaw, aimed at summarizing the tripartite educational program. The purpose of the project was to raise the competencies of future staff by creating dedicated workshops, in the field of introduction to finances, business English vocabulary and preparation for participation in recruitment processes.

In connection with the ongoing work on the new financial perspective for 2021-2027, a meeting of representatives of the Warsaw metropolis was held, during which issues regarding opportunities and risks for the Warsaw Capital Region after 2020 were discussed, including concepts of the draft of the National Strategy for Regional Development 2030 and concept of draft regulations for cohesion policy for 2021-2027.

On March 30-31, the Final of the 17th edition of the Student Negotiation Tournament took place. During four negotiation rounds, the best of 16 teams from all over Poland, checked their negotiating skills on the basis of previously received scenarios. It was a two-way “case study” developed by students from SKN Negotiator operating at the Warsaw School of Economics.

Warsaw’s Pavilion of Architecture the European Open Lecture called “Creative Europe Program – Your support in the implementation of a cultural project” was held for the second time this year. The Lecture was organized by the Europe Direct Information Centre – Warsaw. The meeting was led by Mrs Ewa Kornacka who is responsible for the CULTURA component in the Creative Europe Program. The topic of the meeting included: the possibility of co-financing cultural and audiovisual projects, application procedures and substantive and formal requirements of projects. The meeting was very popular within the cultural sector – over 40 people took part in the meeting. Next meeting with Creative Europe already in autumn.

The first edition of the participatory budget (PB) has recently ended in eight Warsaw schools. It’s main rules were developed by pupils together with their parents, teachers and other school employees. On Wednesday, March 6th, they all met at ZODIAK Warsaw Pavilion of Architecture in order to summarize their projects and develop the guidelines for other educational entities in Warsaw willing to conduct their own PB. Thanks to the guidelines, subsequent PB processes in schools will be even more effective for strengthening pupils’ entrepreneurial spirit, civic engagement and concern for the common good – their school.

The “Participatory budget in school” project is implemented by the “Pole Dialogu” Foundation and the “Stocznia” Foundation and financed by the City of Warsaw.

In the space of the first floor workshop meeting “Warsaw the city of startups” took place, where the Deputy Mayor of City of Warsaw Michał Olszewski and the Director of the Economic Development Department Piotr Sawicki met representatives of the startup ecosystem. The purpose of the meeting was to learn about the needs of the environment in terms of mutual cooperation and building the potential of Warsaw as a city actively supporting the development of entrepreneurship.

A training meeting for representatives of Warsaw agglomeration communities was held in the Zodiak Pavilion, aimed at raising awareness of social participation and involving residents in joint urban space planning.

In January, ZODIAK hosted representatives of local and foreign investors, who had an opportunity not only to present their potential of investing in Warsaw, but also support for Warsaw high schools students in career development.

The month of January was filled with the numerous meetings with the scientists with whom we have discussed joint projects in the field of Warsaw’s development, based on the research programs carried out at the academic level.
