What does the future hold?
For the 27th time, all the latest projects for Warsaw and the neighboring boroughs have been gathered in one place. These projects were submitted by architects and investors.
This year, we present 64 projects by 41 architectural studios. From single-family houses to urban-scale developments. From conceptual ideas to buildings already under construction.
Since 1996, Plans for the Future have been a snapshot of what architecture is about at that time. They show how the challenges we face change and how design teams respond to them. How the premises of new developments evolve. Finally, how function is followed by form, which then influences the appearance of the city in the most visible way.
Today, aesthetics are not enough. We are looking for responsibility in architecture. An answer to crises, with the climate crisis at the forefront. That is why this year, for the first time, we have asked architects to address pro-ecological and pro-social solutions, as well as those related to restoration and new life of buildings.
In addition, we asked the Sustainable Architecture Section of the Warsaw Branch of SARP to identify the most interesting projects and provide them with additional commentary.
The projects submitted to the exhibition provide significant insights into the directions of the city’s development. We present proposals for 15 Warsaw districts and 5 neighboring boroughs. More than half of the entries focus on residential developments.
In contrast, office buildings have dramatically changed the landscape of Warsaw over the past two decades. This year, however, they are represented by only a few investments.
Every third project presented is a public project. These include the New Centre of Warsaw, schools, universities, sports facilities, cultural centers, public spaces, and parks. They demonstrate that architecture can and should serve everyone.
Designed with accessibility, greenery, and measures to counteract heat islands in mind, these initiatives show how urban space can become more welcoming and functional.
Plans for the Future 2024 is not just an exhibition. It serves as a space for imagination and real plans that shape our future. We encourage you to participate in this journey and join us during the exhibition to discuss the future we are creating together.
