Stany Skupienia (States of Matter) is the artistic platform of the ZORZA festival. It was created to extend the festival’s emotions and to bridge creators from various fields—from music and visual arts to literature and film.
The exhibition titled “Stany Skupienia” presents the works of artists who co-created the festival’s visual landscape last summer. This time, their works can be experienced within a gallery space—five distinct yet complementary worlds.
Julia Woronowicz creates her own mythology, unfolding at the intersection of alternative history, visual arts, political fairy tales, and feminist speculation.
Stach Szumski shares this fascination with myth-making. While Woronowicz looks back to the Middle Ages, Szumski wanders even further—to the dawn of time and deeper still, beneath the Earth’s surface. His series Dungeons Keepers, featured in the exhibition, depicts demonic beings that personify geological forces.
Martyna Czech is defined by her expression, high emotional temperature, and an uncompromising gaze at reality. She is one of the most distinctive figures in contemporary Polish figurative painting.
Karolina Bielawska offers a contrast with her abstract, minimalist, and monumental worlds. She translates emotions into a language of forms inspired by industry and architecture.
Anna Barlik also utilizes an abstract language. The exhibition features her sculpture created specifically for the festival, alongside a series of sketches illustrating the work’s birth. For Barlik, every spatial form grows from a drawing, and every drawing stems from a direct experience of nature and its phenomena.
This collaborative exhibition reveals “states of matter” regarding sensitivity, aesthetics, and visuality. The material these creators work with, however, is shared: it is the imagination transformed by creative energy.
