
This session, divided into a prelude and the session, focuses on the rise of the heritage discourse globally and how Warsaw became one of the centres for these conversations. The session is a hybrid session and will include in person speakers and on site.
Łukasz Stanek will speak on the exchanges between Eastern Europe, West Africa, and the Middle East during the Cold War and provide the context for the session that follows.

Mariam Elnozahy and Rado Ištok will speak about their project All That Is Solid Melts into Water: hydropower, archaeology, indigeneity that traces connections between hydropower and heritage.
Ala Younis will speak about the construction of the high dam and displacement of Nubians that led to the UNECSO led The International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia.
Kyrill Mikhailovich Kunakhovich will discuss the centrality of a post-war Warsaw for these conversations and how it led these conversations in the UNESCO and other international organizations such as the International Union of Architects.
