The Echoes of Praga showcases results from an international project exploring the potential of northern Praga.
A new pedestrian and cyclist bridge will connect this area to the capital’s historic center later this year. There is a risk of gentrification, so its transformation must be carefully planned with residents.
The project was initiated by the Capital City of Warsaw. Students from Brno University of Technology and the School of Form in Warsaw participated in lectures, workshops, and field research. They explored this city fragment and identified its unique features.
The project works vary in complexity and multidisciplinarity. The showcased projects include social proposals, utilitarian designs, and landscape or architectural interventions at different scales.
Participants used fragments of historical buildings as creative material. They drew inspiration from small architectural objects in Praga North and local activities in Praga’s courtyards. They also observed new structures and public spaces.
The authors confront their observations with the perceptions and expectations of residents and tourists. Residents expect a modern, functional district but also want to preserve the authenticity of the old part of Warsaw.
The students’ works are divided into four thematic blocks:
- Social Activation
- Additional Functional and Spatial Programs
- Landscape Interventions
- Spatial Objects
